Headstart Program

Paul First Nation offers the Headstart Program, and is for children 3 and 4 years of age. What Your Child Will Learn in Headstart

Kindergarten Readiness

  • School Readiness: Ensuring children are prepared academically, socially, and emotionally for the transition to kindergarten.

  • Routine and Structure: Familiarity with the structure of a school day, following rules, and adhering to routines.

Social and Emotional Development.

  • Self-Regulation: Ability to manage emotions, control impulses, and exhibit patience.

  • Social Interaction: Developing friendships, sharing, and cooperating with peers.

  • Empathy: Understanding and respecting others' feelings and perspectives.

  • Confidence and Independence: Building self-esteem and the ability to complete tasks independently.

Language and Communication Skills Development 

  • Verbal Communication: Ability to express thoughts, needs, and feelings clearly.

  • Listening Skills: Understanding and following directions, engaging in conversations.

  • Vocabulary Expansion: Learning new words and using them in context.

Cognitive Development

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and solve age-appropriate puzzles or challenges.

  • Attention and Focus: Developing the ability to concentrate on tasks for extended periods.

Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve

The Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve (AHSOR) program supports child development and school readiness for children living in First Nations communities on reserve. Funding is provided by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)

First Nations Head Start - Standards Guide

This Aboriginal Head Start Project Standards Reference Guide has been developed to provide assistance to First Nation people involved in the development, design, planning and delivery of Head Start services to children and their families living on reserve.

Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework

The Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework represents the Government of Canada and Indigenous peoples’ work to co-develop a transformative Indigenous framework that reflects the unique cultures, aspirations and needs of First Nations, Inuit and Métis children across Canada.

The Framework sets out a shared vision, principles and a path forward for Indigenous early learning and child care—a Canada where all Indigenous children have the opportunity to experience high-quality, culturally rooted early learning and child care programming.
