Land Based Program
Our Land Based Program is thoughtfully crafted for the youth in our K-9 school community, aiming to instill an appreciation for the profound foundational Indigenous concept of community, empower our students to embrace their identities as individuals and develop a mindset of self-sufficiency for themselves, while inspiring in our students to have both respect and gratitude for the Earth and its resources that it provides for us and for our families.
Confidence and Belonging
To model the idea of community to our students we will endeavor to help them feel a sense of belonging in our classroom through our activities and we will promote the concept of collective responsibility in regards to environmental stewardship through our lessons. We will also encourage them to share their talents and skills with others.
Mindset
To develop our students as individuals and promote the idea of self-sufficiency we will work to develop a mindset of individualism and self-sufficiency by teaching lessons on basic needs such as the need for water, food, shelter, and doing activities that support that message. We will also instill the idea of a “Warrior Mindset” which will encourage and promote key values and principles such as Respect, Patience, Integrity, Perseverance, and an Indomitable Spirit.
Heart
At the heart of our mission is the aspiration to inspire a profound respect for the Earth and its resources. We will teach our students the importance of valuing and caring for the land that sustains us all, helping them understand the interconnectedness of actions at both the micro and macro levels and doing activities that correspond with those ideas. This understanding will help to illustrate to the students how helping to protect the environment and keeping it clean is beneficial to everyone and it will also help them see how well-prepared individuals, equipped with skills and knowledge, can better serve their community, demonstrating that many strong individuals together create even stronger communities.
It is our goal that through this Land Based Program we will help nurture the next generation of leaders who will be connected to their heritage, ready for the future, and dedicated to the well-being of our community and to the environment, equipped with confidence and a belief in their potential to succeed in anything they put their mind to.
